Gas Leak on a Gas Hot Water Heater

Coral Rock Plumbing removed the yellow gas flex line which had a gas leak and replaced with threaded galvanized pipe.

Gas piping should always be galvanized steel with brass ball valves, unions and be pressure tested.  Gas appliances that do not have access to the connection can have flex lines to pull them out of there space, such as gas kitchen stoves.

Gas Piping supply lines to Gas Pool heaters, Gas Kitchen Stoves and Gas Hot water heaters.

Gas piping was used on a new home  in Viera Florida with Plastic gas lines underground and metal riser pipes, the riser pipes are made of thinner material than regular galvanized steel.  The gas lines were rusted and completely severed, the gas company turned off the gas supply at the meter until the pipes were replaced.  Gas lines should only be installed with galvanized steel and sleeved underground with schedule 40 PVC, tested and inspected.  The Gas lines now have a sleeve above ground when they get wet with the harsh water sprinklers, the galvanized pipe will not get wet with unfiltered water.  Exposed galvanized gas piping should always be painted with exterior paint to prevent rust.

Value

Coral Rock Plumbing does not use yellow plastic pipes for gas lines as they are vulnerable for punchers and leaks, the plastic gas pipes are not able to be located, the steel riser adapters are one solid part which can not be repaired and must be dug out as one big piece from the gas main.  Threaded galvanized pipes are sectional, so if one section is rusted, it can easily be taken apart above ground and replaced with new parts.  Painted galvanized gas pipes are the toughest in salt conditions or next to sprinkler systems.
